The SEE grade sheet should be read subject by subject, not only from the overall GPA. Check the theory grade, internal or practical grade, final subject status, and any NG entry before deciding what the result means for further study.
The scale below follows the Curriculum Development Center’s Letter Grading Directive 2078, fourth amendment 2081/03/16. The directive applies letter grading across school education and sets minimum component requirements for Class 10 certification.
SEE grade ranges and grade points
| Achievement percentage | Grade | Grade point | Official achievement description |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90 and above | A+ | 4.0 | Outstanding |
| 80 to below 90 | A | 3.6 | Excellent |
| 70 to below 80 | B+ | 3.2 | Very good |
| 60 to below 70 | B | 2.8 | Good |
| 50 to below 60 | C+ | 2.4 | Satisfactory |
| 40 to below 50 | C | 2.0 | Acceptable |
| 35 to below 40 | D | 1.6 | Basic |
| Below 35 | NG | — | Not graded |
Some result portals or data files may represent NG with 0.0, but the directive’s grading table shows no grade point for NG. Use the status printed on the official grade sheet rather than treating NG as an ordinary low grade.
How to read theory and internal grades
The directive says theory and internal assessment are converted to letter grades separately. For Class 10, the certification rule requires at least:
- D in the theory component, corresponding to the 35-to-below-40 band; and
- C in the internal component, corresponding to the 40-to-below-50 band.
This means a good internal or practical grade does not automatically cancel an NG theory result. Read every component shown for the subject.
A privacy-safe example of reading a result
This is an interpretation example, not a real student’s grade sheet:
| What appears on the result | How to read it |
|---|---|
B+ and 3.2 | The recorded achievement is in the 70-to-below-80 band and is described as very good. |
D and 1.6 | The recorded achievement is in the 35-to-below-40 band and is described as basic. Check the component and any admission requirement. |
NG | That component or subject is not graded. Check the current SEE grade-increment or supplementary notice. |
| Overall GPA but one subject shows NG | Do not rely on the GPA alone. The NG subject still needs attention. |
The example deliberately contains no name, symbol number, date of birth, school, or real marks. A real result should be treated as personal educational information.
What GPA means
GPA is the grade-point average reported for the examination. It summarizes performance, but it does not replace the subject-by-subject result. A college or programme may also apply its own subject-grade or entrance requirements.
Do not convert SEE GPA to a percentage using a social-media formula such as multiplying by 25. The grading directive converts achievement percentages into grade bands; it does not establish a universal reverse conversion from an overall GPA back to one exact percentage. If an institution requests a conversion, ask that institution which official method it accepts.
What NG means and what to do next
NG means Not Graded. First identify the subject and component marked NG. Then:
- Confirm the entry on the official grade sheet or authorized verification service.
- Check the latest SEE Office notice for the applicable grade-increment, supplementary, retotaling, or correction process.
- Note the application deadline, eligible subjects, fee, and school submission instructions from that specific notice.
- Ask the school or examination office if the result appears inconsistent with the student record.
The grading directive provides a route for SEE students who were absent or received NG to participate in the applicable grade-improvement opportunity. The operational dates and application rules still come from the notice for the current result cycle.
How to check the detailed grade sheet
Use the SEE verification service or the Nepal Telecom gradesheet service when it supports the relevant result cycle. Check:
- Student name and symbol number
- School and examination year
- Every subject listed
- Theory and internal or practical grades
- Final subject status
- Overall GPA and result status
For the complete online process and troubleshooting, read how to check the SEE result and marksheet. If websites are overloaded, the separate SEE result by SMS and IVR guide explains the result-summary option.
Frequently asked questions
Is D a passing grade in SEE?
D represents the 35-to-below-40 achievement band and a 1.6 grade point. For Class 10 certification, the directive requires at least D in theory and C in the internal component subject-wise. Check both components and the official result status rather than using the letter alone.
Does NG have a 0.0 grade point?
The official grading table shows no grade point for NG, although some result data or portals may display 0.0. Treat NG as Not Graded and follow the current official notice for the next step.
Can I convert SEE GPA directly into a percentage?
There is no universal reverse conversion in the grading directive that turns one overall GPA into one exact percentage. Do not use an unofficial multiplier unless the receiving institution explicitly requires and defines that method.
Can a high GPA cancel an NG subject?
No. Read every subject and component. If a subject or component is NG, check the applicable grade-increment, supplementary, retotaling, or correction notice even if an overall GPA is visible.
